Our trips originate from Albuquerque, N.M.
Albuquerque to Bernalillo (NM Hwys. 313 and 550)
Bernalillo, N.M. – The Range Cafe is a great place to eat.
Drive along Hwy. 313 to avoid Interstate 25. Watch for bicyclists.
Bernalillo to San Ysidro (NM Hwy. 550)
Watch for speed traps as you approach San Ysidro.
San Ysidro to White Rock (Hwy 4)
Jemez Springs, N.M. has several nice restaurants.
Mile Marker 29 – Near Redondo Campground is a boondocking area. Entrance is a dirt logging road turn west (right if coming from Jemez Springs) off Hwy. 4, which runs north-south for a few miles here. Several campfire rings, cut logs all around, but there are a few spots with nice views of San Diego Canyon.
Mile Marker 32 – Jemez Falls Campground requires reservations. This was full when we arrived at 1 p.m. on a rainy Saturday in September.
Drive past the campground entrance, there’s a view and short hike to see Jemez Falls. Pay attention to signs saying no RVs. Our Ekko did fine, but it was tight. I would not take a larger RV down there. Bathrooms and picnic areas.
East Fork Trailhead – Nice parking area with picnic tables. Good lunch stop.
Mile Marker 35 – Cross-country ski trail on the right if you are heading toward Valles Caldera.
Mile Marker 38 – Trailhead into Valles Caldera National Preserve. Small parking area, $15 per pedestrian.
Mile Marker 39 – Turnoff into Valles Caldera Visitors Center. $25 fee for private vehicles. Various discounts.

Jemez Falls is New Mexico’s tallest waterfall.
