About Us

Heather

I’ve been camping and enjoying the outdoors ever since I can remember. In my younger days, I enjoyed rock climbing at Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin and many weekends tent camping nearby. In our 20s, we lived overseas and had camping adventures in Russia and Central Asia. We drove across Siberia sleeping out in empty spaces along the way and camping on the shores of Lake Baikal. We’ve also camped in the mountains of Kygyzstan. As parents, we camped with our kids in a Coleman popup trailer and enjoyed group camping with friends at many New Mexico campgrounds. I also enjoy writing , reading and overseas traveling.

Bill

Growing up near the Chesapeake Bay, I always dreamed of owning a sailboat, a self-contained way to explore the world at my own pace. Now, after 25 years in the high desert, I imagine pausing our travels in hidden canyons instead of sheltered coves and watching sunsets though thin, clear air. The dream hasn’t changed, just the shape of the vessel.

Polka

Polka is definitely the cutest member of our traveling crew. She’s also the fastest runner and the one who can become invisible just by lying down on the floor between the front seats. We rescued her when she was about nine months old. She had been living on the street near Polk Middle School, hence her name. So far, she has proven herself to be a good camping dog.
